Free Wireless in Vancouver

Looking for free wireless internet nodes in Vancouver? The links and information below will help.

Vancouver Wifi Mug

Vancouver Wifi Mug is "a community-run directory of free wireless cafes in and around the city." Browse listings alphabetically, by neighbourhood, by major street, or by some other criteria. There are tons of listings here, and you can add your own or edit the content already in place to improve the information. An excellent resource!

Node DB

The Vancouver wi-fi page on the Node DB site may be worth a visit. They also have listings for places throughout BC, across Canada, and around the world, by the way. This site used to be the best resource out there, but the Wifi Mug (see above) is now far better.

Hint: Get a Wireless Hotspot Detector!

A wireless hotspot detector like this one is a fantastic way to find hotspots on your own. Or maybe you'd prefer a more advanced model - one that indicates signal strenth, and details like network ID and security status. A bit of web searching should find you just what you want.

The wifi detectors I've linked to are at ThinkGeek.com. I've ordered from ThinkGeek — their service is fantastic, but the added cost of paying in American dollars and then paying customs duty to get their products into Canada is depressing. Hunt around on their site and on other sites to find the product you want, then see if your favourite computer store carries (or can order) something similar. That can save you time, money, and hassle.
